Langham in Rutland
Parish Church History
Though there was probably a church in Langham prior to 1066, the earliest parts
of the present building date from the 13th century. 14th century work in the
church is attributed to Simon de Langham, though no proof exists.
The church of St Peter and St Paul, Langham, is said to be "a fine specimen of
various styles of Gothic architecture" with a number of interesting features.
Of the six bells, the oldest is a late mediaeval bell carrying the Latin inscription:
"Sit Nomen Domini Benedictum" (Blessed be the name of the Lord)
On the Patronal Feast day, the aisles of the church are strewn with hay.
